Ella Gets a Laboratory is a picture book about a gifted, curious Black girl named Ella who loves doing science experiments — but keeps getting in trouble for the mess. Her parents and grandparents, instead of scolding her, secretly build her a lab in the garage where she can explore her brilliant mind freely. Inspired by my real-life daughter and grounded in cultural joy, this book is the first in a self-published series celebrating neurodivergence, family love, and the power of learning.
Themes: Family support, gifted brilliance, joyful neurodivergence
Hi, I’m Celeste Demby — mom, educator, and lifelong believer in the brilliance of our children.
I created The Brilliant Mind of Ella Matthews to celebrate curiosity, culture, and courage. Ella is inspired by my own daughter, Emery, and the many gifted, big-hearted kids I’ve met as an academic counselor. She’s a reminder that brilliance isn’t about perfection — it’s about asking questions, making messes, and daring to try again.
This series is my love letter to every child who’s been told they’re “too much” or “too different,” and to the parents, teachers, and caregivers who nurture their light. I hope Ella’s adventures spark laughter, conversation, and a little more confidence in every young reader who meets her.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Let’s raise a generation that knows their brilliance has no limits.
